Hair Consultation Sessions

Welcome Curlfriend!

The CurlSpa offers full service consultations and life coaching services. These are not just a quick chat and you are NOT required to have a consultation before having any service. However there are definitely some benefits to doing so.

Benefits of a consultation:

Having a consultation prior to a service helps to ease anxiety by establishing a rapore between you and your technician. You can get a better feel for what it means to work with this new person and they can get an understanding of what you are trying to accomplish with your look. At The CurlSpa Ms. Ehrin partners with you to create a look you love. She thinks you're cute just the way you are so this means you should come prepared with some input and ideas about what you are trying to accomplish. Please visit the Pinterest page where you can search for inspiration prior to your appointment.

Things Ms. Ehrin needs to know:

  • What shape I am trying to achieve
  • How much styling I want to do
  • How often I want to be in for maintenance
  • How often do I wash my hair with shampoo
  • How does my scalp feel
  • What types of styling products do I use (gel, cream, foam etc)

Things Ms. Ehrin DOESN'T need to know

  • My curl pattern
  • My mom's curl pattern or ethnicity
  • My brand of products (cantu, deva curl, pantene)

Types of Consultation:

  • In Person
  • Virtual

In person consultations

You don't need a consultation if:

  • If you have NEVER colored your hair in your life
  • If it has been 6+ months since your last trim/haircut

You need a haircut, not a treatment. We don't need to talk about it. I'm sure. Make an appointment for a cut here

Here is the consultation: Detangling has become difficult because your ends are velcro-ing themselves together. This leads to you living in a bun, usually wet, which leads to scalp issues. The answer is a trim and making sure your scalp is getting dry after washing/styling. A wet scalp leads to the overgrowth of bacteria. Usually yeast so what you think is dry and itchy scalp is likely an overgrowth of bacteria. Use an ACV rinse and a soft toothbrush on your scalp then shampoo as normal. Or try this shampoo with ACV in it. It is appropriately named Balance.

Hair color consultations take place at the studio and provide information on how to best achieve your desired hair color result. The two options are a natural curl set with your consultation or a curly cut and set. If you have NEVER in your life colored your hair there is no reason to have a consultation UNLESS you are grey. In that case we should chat because grey hair can be stubborn. Otherwise if you have never colored your hair there is time to chat at your hair color appointment, so long as you are on time.

You should arrive with your hair clean-ish and mostly detangled. Hair color does NOT work better on dirty hair and we will be doing two strand tests on your hair. We test a small portion of hair with bleach and with high lift tint to see which will lend the best result while best maintaining the integrity of the hair and it's curl pattern.

Having an in person color consultation is the only way I can be certain about how to proceed with your service.

Virtual Consultations

These hair and skin consultations are great for people who live farther away or are having a bit of anxiety about working with someone new. When you schedule a virtual consultation you will receive an email with a zoom link. Please be sure to join on time with your camera and mic on. There are two time options for this type of consultation and yes we can talk about both your hair and skin in one appointment.

I recommend a virtual consultation for makeup prior to having a color matching session. This will allow us to determine your skin type exactly what you are wanting to accomplish with your makeup and help streamline the product selection process.
