Hey CurlFriend,
Happy June, school is almost out do you have a graduate this year? Congratulations to you and to them. We are celebrating many graduations in the next few weeks including Harmony who is graduating from middle school this year! I appreciate all of the grads who send/bring their graduation photos. It really means a lot that you share your special moment with me. I also appreciate all the insight you bring when recommending programs and opportunities that Harmony may be interested. I love our little community.
Have you seen the "happy hour" menu
Take a peek at this rotating menu. It is available on Mondays/Tuesdays during the school year and Wednesday/Thursday/Friday during the summer. Please check back often to see if your favorite service or something you've been wanting to try is being featured this month.
Did you get your first pedicure of the season yet? If not, then add that to the appointment
when you come in for your next hair or facial visit. Pedicures and facials should happen monthly if you are able. Both of those services are incredibly relaxing plus most people don't take great care of their feet on the daily. Small changes, like new freckles or skin tags often go unnoticed since you look at your face every day this is why it's a good idea to see an esthetician who can refer you to a dermatologist if anything looks suspicious.
I have a confession...
I may have been wrong about e-files.
Electric nail files, I'm finding, are not the monster of the manicurist table that I thought. What I and many of you have experienced at nail shops with e-files is improper use for the sake of time and saving money. While part of the purpose of an e-file is to speed up the service you cannot use a sanding band for an entire service. Well, obviously you can but you shouldn't. And don't use the same band for multiple people! Those are single use! There are many different bits for different things like cuticle work, the natural nail plate and bits for shaping enhancement product like acrylic or gel. Using an e-file to remove gel polish quickly has become "acceptable" practice but I am not sure how I really feel about it yet so please remove your gel polish from your toes or schedule extra time for me to soak off the polish.

I decided to purchase an e-file and several bits to test it out and find out what is what with them. I just got it less than a week ago, so I haven't incorporated it into my services yet. So again, please remove your gel polish or schedule the time for me to do it. I have to do more reading and get comfortable using it. The muscles in my hand are not used to working that way. There are many layers to peel back but I am excited about it.
I saw a cool practice demonstration, the tech was taking the color off of boiled brown eggs to practice proper pressure.
Have you ever had the skin around your nails knicked up by someone using an e-file improperly? Have you ever been able to feel the drill bit get hot on your nail plate? It was pretty standard when I use to wear acrylics. Sadly, I just accepted it as part of the "experience" I was also really young, like 17-19 I didn't know better. There was no IG or YouTube telling people that wasn't supposed to happen.
I'm excited to start offering gel polish manicures. I found a polish line that I really like that it is HEMA free, made locallly-ish (Oregon) and claims 21 days of wear. Look for that closer to back-to-school time. It takes a bit of research for lamps, and I need time to practice with the product once I get it.
As always thank you so much for reading all the way to the end. I was not able to publish the "Treat of the Week" but look for that special promotion next week. Please forward this email/blog post to someone who has been "looking for a place". There are some Groupon goodies at the bottom of this page for first timers.
